The Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office will join the country in celebrating National Historic Preservation Month throughout May.

Historic places and events throughout Wyoming will focus on the need to preserve Wyoming’s rich heritage. Governor Matt Mead will sign a proclamation at 2:30 p.m. on May 23, 2018 at the Kendrick Gallery Conference Room.

The Kendrick Gallery Conference Room is located towards the back of the Kendrick Building.

“This Place Matters,” is the theme for this year’s campaign sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office. A social media contest, promoting the theme, will encourage residents and visitors to print a downloadable sign and take a selfie in front of a historic place that matters to them..

Random winners will be selected to win a variety of prizes including Bill Sniffin’s book, “Wyoming at 125: Our Place in the West,” framed photo, Wyoming branded gift, and a signed copy of the First Lady’s children’s book, “Wyoming Firsts.”

Mary Hopkins with the State Historic Preservation Office said, “Last year’s campaign was a huge hit, I believe it engages the public and propagates the personal connection people have with historical places. Each site or building stirs a certain emotion and sense of pride that cannot be duplicated. These places are what make Wyoming unique.”
