High Rise Village

Read All About It:

Contains substantial evidence for a semi-permanent alpine village with nearly sixty preserved lodge pads. The site was occupied from the Archaic to the Protohistoric period, as substantiated by fifteen radiocarbon dates and many diagnostic artifacts. The site was discovered in 2006 and in subsequent years of excavation over 30,000 artifacts have been recovered. Excavations have only scratched the surface of the site’s potential. Only a small number of lodges have received any excavation and the areas between lodges have received very limited testing. The remaining deposits hold significant research potential to inform our understanding of high altitude land use by prehistoric peoples.
